Pride Month may be over, but here are some book recommendations for pride year-long! This list focuses on trans and non-binary authors and experiences, as well as LGBTQIA+ folks of color.

Memoirs

Gender Queer: A Memoir by Maia Kobabe is a graphic novel that unfortunately has been banned across the U.S. for its depiction of gender fluidity and trans identities. This book was so informative and moving for me, as it intersects with asexuality and trans identity.

Over the Top: A Raw Journey to Self-Love by the incredible JVN was a deeply moving, personal account of JVN’s life and experiences. It tackles abuse, addiction, and self-harm for JVN while speaking to it larger for the LGBTQ+ community. An inside-look into their life that I really recommend.

¡Hola Papi!: How to Come Out in a Walmart Parking Lot and Other Life Lessons by John Paul Brammer is a funny collection of essays from someone who’s been named the “Chicano Carrie Bradshaw.”

Informative Non-Fiction

How to They/Them: A Visual Guide to Nonbinary Pronouns and the World of Gender Fluidity by Stuart Getty is an informative graphic novel for the person who has asked, how do I use they/them pronouns?

Continuum by Chella Man and Beyond the Gender Binary by Alok Vain-Menon are both small books from the pocket change collective that discuss moving beyond the binary constructs of gender and expressing gender fluidity. Both activists share their personal stories and how liberation can come from freely expressing and celebrating your gender identity.

Rom-Coms

Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers is a great rom-com hat has so much depth without heart-wrenching trauma. After a night in Vegas, Grace wakes up and realizes she’s married to a woman – and doesn’t know her name! This book tackles adulthood and finding yourself, while finding someone along the way.

Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall is just a perfect Great British Bake Off type of a book featuring a bisexual woman. Literally my dream. A fun sapphic rom-com that I blew through that you’ll love.

Feel-Good Fiction

The Guncle by Stephan Rowley is a story makes you feel so many things, while believing these characters are real-life people you know. After a tragic loss, Patrick aka Guncle watches his niblings for the summer. It’s a ride you won’t want to miss.

In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune is a laugh-out-loud funny book that is a queer retelling of Pinocchio. Need I say more? It is deeply touching, as this ragtag group of robots and a person try to navigate an unforgettable journey together.

Here’s my recommendations! There are so many more that there will be many iterations of this post. What LGBTQIA+ books do you love?
